JULIETTE LEON
Juliette Leon is a former singer from an R&B band called Urban Vibe. But, as time and talent offered the opportunity, Leon has branched out on a solo career to work with Die Hard (an up and coming group of midlands producers). Her latest album project has been written and performed with the Die Hard Productions Studio in central Birmingham and is receiving rave reviews; even before its completion! City Studios (with a roster of 15 artists and a four man team) have set to work on a number of original and cover versions, while the tracks Leon has completed were produced at Die Hard receive UK airplay. While Leon’s first release has been featured on from Cafe de Soul 5, who offers a compilation from Soul labels, her talent has already been spotted by major label executives. When it comes to Leon’s influences, it’s obviously the best of the best from Marvin Gay & Diana Ross (Motown). Not only do those veterans peak her trade, but she also has a love for the 80’s soul sounds from Melissa Morgan and Shirley Murdock. Music was instilled in Leon from the start, as her father plays the acoustic guitar, her brother plays the electric guitar, and even her mother plays the piano and is a jazz singer. The family tradition is still alive, as the family still performs live (but separately). It was until now, that Leon began to cut way into the music industry. Surprised thinking she couldn’t sing, she got involved in session singing with a man desperately in need of a session singer, after hearing her singing on the doorstep of her flat… it was then Leon started following her natural ability in and around the midlands area at 19, working as far as Oxford and London. In 1990, she met Alvin Leon & Andrew Harding, where she began to dabble with music and put tracks together for the next three years.
Interest has come in a broad spectrum for the slated up and comer, as EMI had interest in Leon in 1994 and she’s even sang an impromptu duet with Chaka Khan. In 1999, Juliette, Alvin and Andrew formed their trio R&B group, Urban Vibe. Within the same year, Darkus Beese (of Island Records), as well as Warner Brothers became interested in the group. Leon was also offered work from Pete Rafelson (RMC Studios in Hollywood), wanting her vocals only; without the addition of Urban Vibe. But, Leon was dedicated to her band mates and she declined, deciding to carry on with the group in good faith. The group offered Get a Groove On (2002), where as even today, listeners have become fans, questioning why they haven’t been picked up by any label, requesting additional play and exclaiming their smooth sound. While Leon’s latest album, Unconditional is in progress (Die Hard Productions), her style is one that has been raising eyebrows in the UK, as well as the US. The exciting project has been brought to US artists, such as Jarrard Anthony, who came to the UK to record “Just Say” and Myron, who sings duet with Leon on her first single, “Two Hearts,” which is being released in early 2005. When it came to her sultry voice and the album’s lyrical body, Juliette had her own personal style & savvy throughout and LP many are looking forward to. Whether she’s in her Tae kwon do breaking boards with her hands, singing with her daughter, or putting smiles on people’s faces, it’s more than evident that we can only expect great things from this musically-bread songstress in the future.
